As part of our effort to encourage young Victorians from diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in engineering, Webuild has established two tertiary scholarships at the University of Melbourne’s Melbourne School of Engineering (MSE). The two scholarships, to be awarded annually, each cover one year’s MSE tuition fees.

Mikayla Ruzic-Andri is the inaugural recipient of the Webuild Women into Engineering Scholarship. A 19-year-old, first-generation Australian, Mikayla credits her passion for civil engineering to her father, a Croatian immigrant.

Meanwhile, Tu Phan Nguyen is the inaugural recipient of the Webuild Master of Civil Engineering Scholarship. 33-year-old Tu emigrated from Vietnam nearly 10 years ago and has been fascinated by bridges ever since he was a child.

Webuild is growing our presence in Victoria to help meet the State’s growing infrastructure needs.

Earlier this year we announced the establishment of a corporate office in Melbourne and, as part of the Spark Consortium, we have been selected as the preferred delivery partner for the $AUD7-9 billion North East Link road tunnel project.

Our partnership with MSE is part of our long-term commitment to Victoria to help ensure the state has the skills it needs in the future to fulfil its significant infrastructure requirements. Selecting the right tertiary provider to partner with for our scholarship program was also important to Webuild.

We wanted to support diversity in engineering while encouraging more inclusive spaces for STEM learning.

With a student cohort of 34% female, MSE already has the highest level of female STEM participation of any institution/faculty in Australia, making it a great fit.

We look forward to seeing Mikayla and Tu progress through their studies and embark on careers in engineering.
